I know I haven’t really talked crosswords much lately… but that doesn’t mean they’re out of my life. I still dutifully work at my daily New York Times crossword every single morning.
I’m close to finishing today’s puzzle. If I do, this will mark the 2nd time I’ve ever completed Monday through Friday in the same week. Yesterday’s was a tough one, but I struggled through it. Today’s is surprisingly simple for a Friday (or my brain is really sharp today), but I still have about a third of it left unsolved.
Yesterday had a particularly devilish clue… “The head of a centipede?” The answer was SOFTC, as in “soft c,” as in, “the sound a soft c makes.” Sssssssssssssssssss. Centipede. Yeesh. It was driving me nuts. I had that FTC together, but couldn’t fathom that I was correct… what word ends in FTC? When I solved all of its crosswords and had SOFTC in there, I still didn’t believe I had it right… I stared and stared and stared until… huh-doy.
Still, that was pretty tricky.
